 Forklift Masts Provo - Provo (population 112,488) is a city within the state of Utah. The city is 69 km south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front, a chain of cities and towns towards the west of the Wasatch mountains. The city of Provo serves as the county seat of Utah County and the principal city within the Provo-Orem metropolitan area population of 526,810. It is the third largest metro area within the state after Salt Lake City and Ogden-Clearfield.
The city of Provo was named after Etienne Provost, a French-Canadian who explored the area in 1825. The Mormons created a community here in the latter part of the 1840s and Provo was incorporated during the year 1849. Due to its large quantity of fruit gardens and orchards, Provo was referred to as the "Garden City". Brigham Young Academy was founded in Provo during the year 1875. Later on, the academy became Brigham Young University (BYU), the country's largest church-affiliated university. The university has been really essential to Provo. They have been growing together, supporting nationally significant sports and academic programs and a local high-technology business.
Provo hosts a lot of local celebrations, the biggest of which is America's Freedom Festival. It is one of the largest celebrations of American Independence within the country, with over 30 events taking place during 21 days before and including the 4th of July. The Stadium of Fire Spectacular is the climax of the event, held at the Cougar Stadium within BYU. A different main event is the yearly WinterFest, a series of events starting with the December Christmas Parade in downtown Provo and ending with a Firework Finale on New Year Eve's.
The Provo region has a rather diversified economy. There are several software technology firms within the area. Software companies situated in the Provo region like for example the well-known Symantec, Novell, Inc., and Corel. Some of the high tech firms located within the area are Ameritech Library Services, Covergys, PowerQuest Corp., Micron technology, Nimbus Manufacturing, Folio Corporation and Viewsoft. The region also has several biotech businesses.
