 Forklift Masts Reno - Reno (population around 220,500) is a city within the state of Nevada, the 2nd most populous city in the state next to Las Vegas. The city of Reno serves as the county seat of Washoe County. The city of Reno is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a desert valley. The hotel and casino business is the major attraction. Other than tourism, Reno has businesses related to computers, electronics, communications and financial services. Companies situated here manufacture products ranging from pet food to cement.
As early as the 1850's, the first pioneers started settling in the Truckee Meadows. They were attracted to the valley with free flowing water of the Truckee River that flowed directly down from Lake Tahoe. Adventurers traversing the California Trail stopped here as they followed the Truckee River westward en route for the Sierras. Gold was discovered during the mid- nineteenth century, immediately followed by the discovery of silver, that caused a mining rush.
Reno has a well-developed arts scene, with collections housed in the Stremmel gallery and the Nevada Museum of Art. The Art District in downtown Reno is the place to find galleries, shops, restaurants and coffeehouses. The Historic Reno Preservation Society provides tours of ancient rock art places and several historic sites. Reno's cultural and artistic organizations comprise the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Broadway Comes To Reno series, the Nevada Opera and community theaters. Nothing To It Culinary Center, a well-regarded cooking school, provides classes.
Reno hosts community events every year, such as a classic car convention referred to as Hot August Nights, and a motorcycle fan gathering and rally known as Street Vibrations. There is likewise the Reno Air Races, the Great Reno Balloon Race, the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off in Sparks, the Cinco de Mayo celebration, and bowling tournaments.
