 Forklift Masts Laredo - Laredo City is located on Rio Grand River's northern bank and is the largest city within the Webb County. The city of Laredo currently has three bridges, with a fourth being built along the Tamualipas border. Two border crossings are now maintained by Laredo City; One with the Mexican State of Nuevo Leon at Columbia and one with the Mexican State of Tamaulipas at Nuevo Laredo. The principal port of entry into Mexico within Laredo can be accessed on the Pan American Highway.
The average maximum temperature throughout the springtime is 89 degree Fahrenheit and the minimum is about 54 F. Throughout the summer, the high is usually roughly 98 degree Fahrenheit and the low is 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperatures during fall range from a high of 95 F and a low of 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Throughout the winter, the temperature varies from 71 degrees Fahrenheit to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. There is approximately 19 inches of precipitation per year and the average humidity is 62 percent.
The name of the city came from a small town within Santander, situated on the north coast of Spain. Spaniard Jose de Escandon founded one of the last northern provinces of New Spain, Nuevo Santander. The objective was to colonize the nation Mexico. Laredo City was colonized during the year 1755 and was initially called San Agustin de Laredo. Along with Laredo, six other settlements were established along the Rio Grande by Escandon, comprising Carmargo and Reynosa during the year 1749, Dolores and Revilla in 1750, and Mier during 1752. Laredo is believed to be the oldest independent settlement within the state of Texas as there were no missions associated with its founding. It is now the only remaining Spanish colonial settlement on the north bank of the lower Rio Grande.
On the 15th of May, the year 1755, Captain Tomas Sanchez, together with three families, settled 15 leagues of land on the Rio Grande. The family raised cattle, sheep, horses, goats, mules and oxen. The city was laid out by the year 1767 with the economy mostly focused on ranching.
There are four South Texas banking institutions within the city of Laredo, consisting of International Bank of Commerce, the Falcon International Bank, Texas Community Bank and BBVA Compass. Laredo is also the largest inland port in the USA due to the North American Free Trade Agreement, its strategic location, dozens of import export agencies and several twin assembly plants. Mexican shoppers flock to Laredo as a shopping spot, which helps supplement the economy.
