Forklift Masts Grand Junction - In the western part of Colorado, the largest city is Grand Junction. It is located 398km or 247 miles west-southwest of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver. Based on the 2010 census, Grand Junction's population was 58,566, making it the most densely inhabited city on the Colorado Western Slope and the 15th most densely inhabited city within the state of Colorado.

Grand Junction is a city with a council-manager government form that is the most densely inhabited city of Mesa County, Colorado, USA and also the county seat. Grand Junction serves as a crucial transportation and commercial hub in the large area between the Continental Divide and the Green River. Based on the 2010 Census, the Grand Junction Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of approximately 146,723.

Grand Junction is located along the Colorado River. From the south, it receives the Gunnison River as well. The name "Grand" refers to the historical upper Colorado River, that was renamed in the year 1921. The word "Junction" is derived from the joining of the Colorado and Gunnison rivers. The nickname "River City," has been given to the city of Grand Junction for obvious reasons.

Grand Junction is located near the Grand Valley, which is a main fruit growing region in the area. Grand Junction lies close to this mid-point of Grand Valley that is a 30 miles or 48 kilometers arching valley which was initially home to the Ute people. In the 1880s, the area was inhabited by white farmers. Throughout recent decades, many wineries have become established in the area as well.

There are many canyons and mesas that overlook Grand Junction on the western side. The Colorado National Monument and public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management also border the city of Grand Junction. A prominent series of cliffs which define the Grand Valley's northern portion are called the Book Cliffs.

The Country Jam Ranch is located near Grand Junction just north of I-70 at the Mack exit. This is a permanent festival place constructed for music festivals, like Country Jam, an event that has been held ever since 1992 and one that draws thousands of country music buffs to the area.

The city of Grand Junction has become a main mountain biking destination. A lot of bikers visit from the Salt Lake City region and the Front Range of Colorado. Some travel from as far away as the state of California to enjoy the area's abundant single-track trails. There are 2 major trails among others that are the Kokopelli and Tabegauche trails. They run up to Moab, Utah from near Loma.

On May 2, the year 1982, the economic bust, known as "Black Sunday," to the locals, started with one phone call from the President of Exxon to the Governor of Colorado at the time, Richard Douglas Lamm. He stated that the Exxon Company will reduce its losses whilst retaining mining rights to the uneconomic oil. This bust was felt statewide because Exxon had invested more than 5 billion USD into the State of Colorado.
