 Forklift Masts St. Petersburg - The city of St. Petersburg, Florida is located in the Tampa Bay Area. This popular vacation resort area serves a large population of roughly 245,314, making St. Petersburg the fourth most heavily populated city in the entire state of Florida. St. Petersburg is situated in the County of Pinellas, wherein Clearwater serves the county seat. Then again, county services are available through county offices in St. Petersburg. There are 2.7 million inhabitants within the Metropolitan Statistical Area.
peter Demens and John C. Williams co-founded the city of Petersburg. Mr. Williams bought the land in the year 1876, and Demens helped bring the railroad there in the year 1888. St. Petersburg officially became a city in the year 1892, with a population of 300 inhabitants.
Situated on Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg enjoys a tropical climate, allowing the city to pack the year with many outdoor activities. More than 1,000 thousand outdoor activities are held here every year, most taking place along the preserved downtown waterfront area. Festivals include American Stage in the Park, the Cajun/Zydeco Crawfish Festival, Earth Day's Green Thumb Festival, the Art Arbor Nature Crafts Festival, and a lo more. The music and art is nearly constant as the city's parks and streets fill with tourists. The city of St. Petersburg is also the site of an Indycar series car race, the Honda grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
The downtown Central Business District of St. Petersburg is full of office high rise buildings like the Bank of America Tower. Downtown dining is located on Central Avenue and nearby streets, as well as on Beach Drive. Various bars, lounges and clubs can be located around and along Central Avenue with the kind of entertainment to suit any taste. Jannus Landing and the State Theatre are two popular concert places. The St. Petersburg Times newspaper has its head office in the Central Business District.
There are many fine theatres and galleries within the Central Business District, like for instance the Mahaffey Theater complex, which has a glass-enclosed atrium which overlooks the waterfront. The multi-use facility, The Coliseum, has the finest ballroom in the south. There are some well-known art collections: Chihuly Collection presented by the Morean Arts Center, Museum of Fine Arts, Salvador Dalí Museum, the Holocaust Museum and the Florida International Museum. Dozens of various cultural venues and galleries could be found downtown and on the border.
