 Forklift Masts Arizona - The US state of Arizona is situated within the southwestern area of the country. The state is part of the mountain west and the western United States. The largest city and the states capital is Phoenix. Tucson is the 2nd largest city, followed in size by eight Phoenix metropolitan area cities: Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, Peoria, Surprise and afterward by Yuma within Yuma County.
Arizona is the 48th state and last among the contiguous states admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on the 14th of February, the year 1912. Arizona is noted for its mild wintertimes, desert weather conditions and exceptionally hot summers, but it also features pine forests and mountain ranges in the northern high country, with much cooler conditions than in the lower deserts.
Arizona State is one of the Four Corners states. It borders New Mexico, Utah, California and Nevada, touches the state of Colorado, and has a 389-mile or 626 km international border together with the states of Sonora and Baja California in Mexico. It is the largest landlocked U.S. state by population. In addition to the Grand Canyon, a lot of other national forests, parks, and monuments are located within the state, although more than a quarter of its land is Federal Trust Land that serves as the home of the Navajo Nation, the Hopi tribe, the Tohono O'odham, Yaqui and Apache people and different Yuman tribes, like the Hualapai, Yavapai and Quechan.
The total gross state product during 2006 was $232 billion. If the state of Arizona were an independent nation, 2005 numbers will place them as the 61st biggest economy in the world, based on the World Factbook provided by the CIA. This figure gives the state of Arizona a larger economy than such nations like New Zealand, Ireland and Finland. Arizona State currently has the 21st biggest economy amongst states in the United States. As a percentage of its overall budget, the anticipated $1.7 billion deficit of Arizona for the year 2009 is one of the biggest in the United States, behind states such as California, Texas, Michigan, and Florida, to name some.
The state's per capita income is $40,828, ranking 39th in the United States. The state of Arizona had a median household income of $50,958 making it 22nd in the United States and just shy of the U.S. national median. Early in its history, Arizona's economy depended on the "five C's": cotton, cattle, copper, citrus, and climate (tourism). At one point Arizona State was the biggest producer of cotton in the US. Copper is still extensively mined from many expansive open-pit and underground mines, responsible for two-thirds of the country's output.
Arizona's state government is the biggest employer, while Wal-Mart is the state's leading private company, with 17,343 employees in 2008. As of June the year 2010, the unemployment rate of the state is 9.6%.
The United States government owns practically 70 percent of the land in the state of Arizona, leasing a small part of the public domain to ranchers and miners.
