The government of Springfield is led by a city council and a mayor, whilst Illinois State government is based both in the "Capital Township" governmental entity and in the city proper. Several of the state government entities located in the city comprise the Illinois General Assembly, the Illinois Supreme Court and the Office of the Governor of Illinois. This sector accounts for a major portion of Springfield's work force.
