Forklift Masts Saint Paul - Saint Paul, Minnesota is the capital city of the state. As part of the Twin Cities with adjoining Minneapolis, they combine to form the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area which supports more than 3.6 million residents. Most of the city of Saint Paul is located on Mississippi River's north bank. Saint Paul is the county seat of the most heavily populated Ramsey County.
The history of the region saw many North American settlements and tribes that produced a lot of trade and transportation. Originally, the settlement of Saint Paul began in the area presently called Lambert's Landing. It was referred to as Pig's Eye after Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant, a local tavern owner. The first Catholic pastor to visit the area, Fr. Lucien Galtier, established the Log Chapel of Saint Paul. Immediately after, he renamed the settlement Saint Paul. The Log Chapel site later became the site of Saint Paul's Cathedral.
The city of Saint Paul was selected in the year 1849 to be the Minnesota Territory capital. Saint Paul is home to numerous essential institutions because it is the state capital and center to a lot of political activity. The city draws visitors from the area to the Xcel Energy Center, a multi-purpose entertainment and sports venue. The city of Saint Paul is home of the Minnesota Wild Hockey Club. The Science Museum of Minnesota is the most famous museum within the Upper Midwest.
Saint Paul and Minneapolis have higher-than-average literacy rates. Unlike the majority of American cities, the city of Saint Paul increased the circulation number of Sunday newspapers during the year 2007. It was the only city with a population of 250,000 or more to do so.
The main companies of Gander Mountain, Ecolab and Lawson Software have their headquarters located within the city. The leading chemical and cleaning product company Ecolab, in the year 2008, ranked as the cities 8th best place to work. Lawson Software is a support and business software company. Gander Mountain is a huge sporting goods retailer. Though 3M Company is not situated in the city, numerous inhabitants of Saint Paul work there. 3M employs 16,000 individuals throughout Minnesota State. St. Jude Medical, a manufacturer of medical devices, is situated in Little Canada, a suburb of the Twin Cities.
Saint Paul was home to the Ford Motor Company's Twin Cities Assembly Plant in Highland Park on the Mississippi River. The plant was closed in December of the year 2011. The majority (82 percent) of Minneapolis-Saint Paul-Bloomington area residents work within the private sector.
