Charles Lindbergh started the first west to east transcontinental flight from Glendale Central Airport. Made from inspiration of Spanish style architectural elements and Art Deco themes, the main terminal building still stands and is an important element of Glendale's history. Up until 1959, The Grand Central Business park used to be the Grand Central Air Terminal Building. During WWII, the building was camouflaged in order to protect it from enemy attacks.
Situated in the Glendale Public Library, the city has a "Special Collections" section containing a lot of the original documents of Glendale's history. The library houses the largest collection of books on cats, thanks to the Jewel City Cat Fanciers Club, who during the year 1950 donated twenty thousand volumes to the library. It is a special collection and will be kept permanently on view for people who are part of the club.
There are two famous restaurants which started within the city of Glendale. During 1945, Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlors started in Adams Square, while in 1936, Bob's Big Boy hamburger restaurants was established on East Colorado.
