Forklift Masts Lakewood

Forklift Masts Lakewood - The most populous city within Jefferson County, Colorado, is Lakewood. This Home Rule Municipality is the 5th most populous within Colorado State and the 172nd most densely inhabited city in the USA. The U.S. Census Bureau projected the population Lakewood to be 142,980 as of the 1st of April, the year 2010. Lakewood is part of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located west of the city of Denver.

Before its incorporation in 1969, the city of Lakewood was policed by the Jefferson County Sherriff. They had few street lights and sidewalks at that time and were looked after by a volunteer fire service. In the year 1969, Lakewood became incorporated. The population of Lakewood was already more than 90,000 at the time of incorporation.

The economy of the city is quite diverse, though the largest employers within the city of Lakewood are within Government. A medical devices manufacturer called CaridianBCT employs more than 1600 people and the Jefferson County R-1 school district employs about 3930 individuals.

There was never a conventional downtown area within the city. Initially, the region with the most commercial establishment was West Colfax Avenue from Harlan west to Kipling and beyond. Moreover, the JCRS or the Jewish Consumptive Relief Society for TB patients, together with the small frame Methodist Church was among the very first major establishments in the area. By the 1950s, gas stations, drug stores, restaurants and taverns, grocery stores, a bowling alley, a movie theatre, used car lots and several motels emerged.

There were a variety of strip mall "shopping centers," that were home to multi-business establishments which sprang up. These were followed by a lot bigger complexes at Westland and JCRS. On Alameda Boulevard, the Villa Italia Mall, located 20 blocks south of Colfax, reflected the southward development of the Lakewood settlement. It was home to a larger area of retail property. After the mall went into decline, the Council of Lakewood devised a plan to take down the Villa Italia Mall and replace it with a new development called Belmar.

Lakewood High School is home to an International Baccalaureate school in Jefferson County. Moreover, Alameda High School is also an International Baccalaureate or I.B. School. There is the Colorado Christian University situated within Lakewood as well.
