Forklift Masts Mesquite - The city of Mesquite, Texas is located roughly 12 miles away from the city of Dallas. The city of Mesquite is a mid-sized city in north central Texas. The city of Mesquite gets its name from the Mesquite Creek that flows through the city. It is situated near the crossroads of Interstate Highways I-30 and I-635 on U.S. Route 80. Garland City is located to the north and Balch Springs lies to the south. The city of Mesquite is known as the "Rodeo Capital of Texas" because it hosts the Mesquite Championship Rodeo yearly.

The Texas and Pacific Railway were constructed during the year 1873. In the year 1887, Mesquite City was incorporated and little by little started to expand with cotton being its main economic driver. In a twenty year span, from 1950 to 1970, the population rapidly increased from less than 20,000 individuals to 50,000 residents. The cities expansion was due largely in part to the growth of the neighboring city of Dallas. To be able to help preserve Mesquite's heritage and culture, the city of Mesquite established the Mesquite Historical Commission in the 1980's. The name has since been changed to the Historic Mesquite, Inc., and is presently working on numerous projects including a historical park.

The town of Mesquite was founded on May 22, 1873, along the Texas & Pacific rail lines just outside of Dallas, by a Texas & Pacific Railway engineer. The cities population began to grow more rapidly after the train, which ran from Dallas City to Shreveport, began to stop within the little town. On December 3, 1887, the city of Mesquite was incorporated officially.

The economy in the city of Mesquite mainly revolved around agriculture and farming, particularly growing cotton, hay, sugar and corn. The railway was invaluable for shipping these raw goods. The economy of Mesquite City remained focused on agriculture until soon after WWII. Mesquite became successful, and its population rose from 1,696 during 1950 to approximately 55,131 during the year 1970.

Located in the city are numerous unique attractions. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo is among the most highly anticipated event of the year. It has run every year since the year 1958 and is televised throughout the nation. Another of Mesquites premiere attractions is the Mesquite Arts Center which is home to more than 16 arts groups like the Mesquite Community Theatre, the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, the Mesquite Community Band, and a local art gallery. A family-friendly facility, the Rodeo City Music Hall, offers all kinds of entertainment enjoyable for all ages. Between the months of March and November the Devil's Bowl Speedway hosts an array of action-packed competitions that racing fans flock to attend. Amongst the historic sites within Mesquite City are the the Texas Queen and the Florence Ranch Homestead, which dates back to the late 1800's. The Texas Queen is actually a double deck paddle wheeler that serves as a well-known location used for special events.

Being close to Dallas and Fort Worth, Mesquite Citythe city of Mesquite is near other popular attractions, like for example Fair Park, the Dallas Arboretum Botanical Garden, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Zoo, Forth Worth Stockyards National Historic Districts, Dallas World Aquarium and Rainforest, The Sixth Floor Museum, the West End Marketplace and the Six Flags Over Texas.

A lot of the nearby cities have well-known sports teams associated with them. Arlington is home to the Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and Irving is home to the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Dallas Stars.
