 Forklift Masts Erie - Erie is a city located in the northwestern region of Pennsylvania, United States. It was named after the Native American tribe and the lake they lived along its southern shoreline. With a population of approximately 102,000 Erie is the 4th biggest city within the state of Pennsylvania. The Metropolitan Area comprises approximately 280,000 people. The Urbanized Area population is around 195,000. The city of Erie forms the seat of government for the County of Erie.
The city is quite near the major metro areas of Buffalo, New York, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cleveland, Ohio. The economy is heavily dependent upon manufacturing, even if it used to be a prime location for heavy industry. Healthcare, tourism and higher education are emerging as greater driving factors of the economy. Presque Isle State Park is visited by millions on a yearly basis for water recreation. There are various attractions like for example a casino and a horse racetrack that have been named for the state park.
The city of Erie was founded in the year 1795. It was first settled by both English and French settlers. Immediately after, the city of Erie became a significant port which focused at first on the salt trade. During the year 1813, among the proudest historical moments took place in the city of Erie when Commodore Oliver Perry, whose majority of ships was constructed in Erie, defeated the British in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of the year 1812.
The city of Erie emerged as a maritime center and eventually became a railroad center in the westward expansion of America. Erie had become a big industrial center by the 20th century. The manufacturing focus was largely on steel and iron. These days, the city of Erie has grown to draw a more diverse mix of mid-sized industries. For example, small plastic and steel plants have emerged and become driving forces in the city's economy. The tourism sector has essentially grown in recent years as well.
The city of Erie is the main access point to the Saint Lawrence seaway, Lake Erie and the Great Lakes for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. There are various places of interest in the city for both culture and recreation. Like for example, the Erie Children's Museum specializes in visitors between the ages of 2 and 12 and offers a large variety of interactive displays in the fields of the humanities and science. The Erie Art Museum is situated within a former U.S. Customs House. It offers a wealth of changing art exhibits featuring a lot on folk art and contemporary art.
