 Forklift Masts Rockford - The city of Rockford, Illinois is located in the northern part of the state and serves as the seat for Winnebago County. Running through this city of approximately 152,000 residents is the Rock River. The city of Rockford is the most populated within the state of Illinois outside of the Chicago Metropolitan Area.
Often called "The Forest City", the city of Rockford was founded by Germanicus Kent during the year 1834 and referred to is as Midway, due to the village's location halfway between Galena, Kent's hometown and the bustling city of Chicago. During the year 1852 Rockford officially became a city with a growing population thanks to the Galena & Chicago Union Railroad, that ran through it. By the early twentieth century, Rockford had become a major industrial and manufacturing center. Several manufacturers that are recognized nationally established themselves here. Faced with a decline following the Second World War ended, the economy has in recent years recovered to concentrate on becoming an entertainment, commercial and cultural center.
The area around Rockford has a lot of manufacturing enterprises making products like machine tools and other hardware for the aerospace business. The city also boasts some chemical manufacturing companies. High-tech firms have become increasingly attracted to the city of Rockford over the past few decades. The Discovery Center Museum has fascinating exhibits and a planetarium. The Erlander Home Museum provides glimpses into the region's Swedish settlers. The Ethnic Heritage Museum relates the history of the early Irish, Italians, Polish, African-Americans, Lithuanians and Hispanics. Beyond these urban draws, the natural environment of Rockford provide various outdoor recreational activities.
