 Forklift Masts Overland Park - The city of Overland Park, Missouri is a suburb of the larger city of Kansas City and is located in the County of Johnson. Overland Park is bounded by the cities of Olathe, Lenexa, Prairie Village and Leawood. It is the biggest suburb of Kansas City.
The founder of Overland Park was William B. Strang Jr., who established the city during the year 1905. He envisioned communities of subdivisions which were "park-like" and self-sustaining. Among these was Overland Park, a successful experiment which saw ongoing growth until its incorporation as a city in 1960. The city of Overland Park boomed during the 1980s as the number of inhabitants and businesses skyrocketed. By the end of that decade, the population was more than 100,000.
Kansas City and Overland Park have a lot of cultural attractions to offer visitors. The Nerman Museum has the largest selection of contemporary art in the Midwest. The New Theatre Restaurant is a popular venue which has been called "the best dinner theatre in the country." The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens provides a spectacular series of gardens accessible by trails on a 300-acre site that includes a children's discovery garden and waterfalls. The Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead is a favorite with kids who could take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, tour an early-twentieth century farmhouse replica and see farm animals.
Overland Park has 72 city parks totaling roughly 7.3 km2 of space. Numerous parks have facilities for biking and hiking, playgrounds, sand volleyball, tennis courts and basketball courts. Some have reservable shelters.
Overland Park is where shoppers could find the biggest mall within the region. With 200 stores, Oak Park Mall is bigger than whatever other mall in the entire states of Kansas and Missouri. Overland Park is the home of Sprint Nextel world headquarters, that employs roughly 18,500 people and occupies 1 km˛ of the city. Many Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here, like for example YRC Worldwide, Black & Veatch, Waddell & Reed, Examinetics, Ferrellgas and Ash Grove Cement Company.
Education provides substantial employment in Overland Park, at school districts including Shawnee Mission, Blue Valley, Spring Hill and Olathe districts, along with Johnson County Community College.
