Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum features American art from colonial times to the present, with an emphasis on western art. Its extensive compilation, once owned by Tulsa oil magnate Thomas Gilcrease and bought by the city of Tulsa during 1955, consists of 10,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints by 400 artists. Of the 22 bronzes of Frederic Remington, 18 could be seen here. Other cultural attractions and museums in the city of Tulsa consist of the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Tulsa Air and Space Center and the Fenster Museum of Jewish Art. Tulsa is home to the Tulsa Zoo and the Oklahoma Aquarium. Mayfest is a 4-day outdoor arts and music festival which attracts 250,000 people annually.
Even though the oil business has historically dominated Tulsa's economy, efforts in economic diversification have created a base in the sectors of aerospace, finance, telecommunications, technology, manufacturing and high tech. The Tulsa International Airport (TUL) and the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, the nation's most inland seaport, connect the area with international trade and transportation. A maintenance base of American Airlines at Tulsa International Airport is the city's largest employer and the biggest maintenance facility in the globe, serving as the airline's international maintenance and engineering headquarters, whilst the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and the Tulsa International Airport house extensive industrial parks.
Some large financial companies have headquarters in the city of Tulsa, the biggest being the BOK Financial Corporation. The semi-national convenience store chain QuikTrip, the international car rental company of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Mazzio's semi-national pizza chain and Hilti also call the city of Tulsa home. Numerous international gas and oil-related businesses have head office in Tulsa, like for instance SemGroup, Williams Companies, ONEOK, Syntroleum, Samson and Excel Energy. Meanwhile, there are 30 businesses within the city of Tulsa that hire over 1,000 individuals, although small businesses make up over 80% of Tulsa's companies.
