 Forklift Masts Denver - The County of Denver and the City of Denver are both the most densely inhabited city and county in the state of Colorado. The city is situated on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains within the South Platte River Valley. The downtown district in Denver is located east of the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek, about 12 miles or 19 km east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Due to its elevation of precisely a mile, the city is nicknamed Mile-High City since it lies 5,280 feet or 1.6 km or 1,609.344 m above sea level. The city of Denver was established in November of the year 1858, beginning as a mining town. It became more famous during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush located within Western Kansas Territory. The summer season of 1858, a group of gold prospectors came from Lawrence, in the state of Kansas and they established the city of Montana on the banks of the South Platte River. This was the very first settlement which will later become established as the city of Denver. Immediately after its beginnings, the location faded. By the summer months of 1859 however, it was abandoned in favor of St. Charles City and in favor of Auraria, named after the gold mining town with the same name located within the state of Georgia.
Currently, Denver has a fast paced growing population of roughly 560,000. The city has become an essential hub for industrial, commercial and transportation activities. The economy has been further influenced by the telecommunications and biomedical technology industries. Real estate, construction, mining and tourism also play essential parts. Numerous federal agencies like a U.S. Mint, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration all call the city of Denver home. Opened during the year 1995, the Denver International Airport is the biggest airport within all of North America, covering more than 53 square miles.
The Denver-Aurora metropolitan region enjoys an extremely strong economy. There are many opportunities for professional and business growth in the city. There are 17 Fortune 1000 company headquarters situated in Colorado. 16 of these corporate head offices are situated within the Denver-Aurora metropolitan region. Qwest Communications is the largest company who has their corporate head office in the Denver region. The Sports Authority and Molson Coors Brewing are two of the most popular companies which have their head offices located here.
Within Denver, the labor force is well educated, ranking in the top 20 American cities, based on the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey. Roughly 36 percent of the population boasts a college degree or higher education. Central Connecticut State University ranked Denver sixth among the most literate cities within the United States in 2005.
The central location of the city makes it a perfect place for distributing goods for storage as well as to and from the Mountain States. The region of Denver-Aurora has a huge concentration of federal government institutions. Except for Washington D.C. the metropolitan area of the city of Denver comprises more federal employees than any other metropolitan area in the city.
