State Route 2010 and Interstate 20 intersect the city from east to west, while Interstate 15 passes diagonally through the northwest part of the city. The cities financial system was mainly rural until World War II, When Henry J. Kaiser built a big steel mill within the city. This has ever since been replaced with the Auto Club Speedway.

The largest library in San Bernardino County, can be located in Fontana. It also has numerous other attractions and amenities for its tourists who stop in and residents. There is a wonderful city park and the Auto Club Speedway together with a recently renovated historic theatre, that is home to live shows. Fontana is the home to the 5K run and Fontana Days Half Marathon, which is the fastest half marathon course in the world.

The financial system of Fontana is mainly industrial, but has a big influence in the trucking industry. There are many truck dealerships, in addition to the numerous industrial equipment sale centers situated throughout the city. There are plenty of centers, like for instance Sears, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and Target, that distribute their products. Salvage yards are quite popular here, along with small car dealerships. Retail is also very common in the city. There are two main shopping centers in the city, with Summit Heights gateway/Falcon Ridge Town Center in the North and Palm Court in the south end of the city. "Miracle Mile" is part of a commercial strip zone that lies along the 210 freeway in between Sierra and Citrus Avenues. Fontana Auto Center has two major dealerships in this zone.

Even though the Auto Club Speedway is located outside of city limits, it still offers a huge boost to the economy. For three or four days a year, tens of thousands of people flock her to watch the races. For these few days, the businesses in Fontana thrive.
