Forklift Masts Shreveport

Forklift Masts Shreveport - Shreveport (population 199,311) is a city in Louisiana State. The city of Shreveport serves as the seat of Caddo Parish and extends into Bossier Parish. It is the third biggest city and part of the 4th biggest metropolitan area in the state of Louisiana: the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Area with a population of almost 400,000. The city of Shreveport is situated along the Red River across from Bossier City on the other side. The two cities are referred to as "Shreveport-Bossier."

Within the area of Shreveport, the states of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana converge on an area referred to as "Ark-La-Tex".

The township was officially settled by the Shreve Town Company that established the town at the point of the Red River and the Texas Trail during 1836. The Texas Trail was established by travelers as an overland route to Mexico and then later to Texas. The newly-formed village was known as Shreve Town to honor Captain Henry Miller Shreve. The Captain was like a hero after leading US Army Corps of Engineer efforts to get rid of a long stretch of debris clogging the river.

Incorporated during the year 1839, the town of Shreveport did not officially become a city until the year 1871. During part of the 20th century, the city played a key part in the national oil industry. When the oil business faltered in the 1980s, Shreveport's economy declined due to layoffs, company closures and cutbacks. The city of Shreveport then concentrated its efforts on the service sector by preserving its landmarks and developing riverboat casinos. Nowadays, it is considered a popular tourist spot.

The change to a service economy encouraged a boom within the gaming business. The famous riverboat gambling casinos offer an important source of revenue and employment for the area. Casinos in Shreveport-Bossier include Eldorado Casino, Sam's Town Casino, Diamond Jacks Casino, Horseshoe Casino and Boomtown Casino. The city of Shreveport was the 2nd most visited city in the state of Louisiana following New Orleans (before Hurricane Katrina). The region is also known for horse racing. Harrah's Louisiana Downs, a main racetrack, is located within nearby city of Bossier. Tourists can contact the Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureau for tourism information regarding the region, including events, attractions, restaurants and accommodations.

The region of Shreveport-Bossier is a commercial and cultural center. It supports a large entertainment and shopping complex called the "Louisiana Boardwalk" which is situated across the river in Bossier City. The Boardwalk is a 51,000 m² facility with restaurants, outlet shopping, movie theatre and bowling complex.
